Course Description This lecture series introduces macroeconomic models with heterogeneous firms. I will first cover the basic datasets and some facts of firm dynamics in macroeconomic contexts, mainly from the United States. After covering the basic Hopenhayn and Rogerson (1993) model and its variants, I will talk about some applications and policy implications of the basic model. Then I will cover the firm dynamics model that involves innovation by firms: Klette and Kortum (2004) and its variants. Finally, I will talk about how firm dynamics can interact with labor market frictions.

Contents:
1. Basic datasets, facts, and model (Lecture note 1)
2. Reallocation and misallocation (Lecture note 2)
3. Innovation and firm dynamics (Lecture note 3)
4. Labor market frictions and firm dynamics (Lecture note 4)
