| Abstract | This course covers empirical literature on signaling. Starting from a seminal paper by Spence (1970), signaling models have been applied to many settings such as advertising, pricing, education, and corporate finance. Despite a large number of theoretical papers on signaling, the empirical literature on signaling has been lagged behind. After quickly reviewing a stylized signaling model and some old empirical papers on signaling, the course will discuss recent empirical papers on signaling. The emphasis will be on learning applications to Industrial Organization and Marketing. |
