Abstract This is the second module of the lecture series on real estate finance and economics. Students can attend any of the four sections. Attendance to the first module (on macroeconomics and investment) is not necessary.
Real estate is one of the largest components of consumption expenditures and the asset for both households and businesses. Mortgages are also the largest class of debt instruments. As a result, real estate has become the major asset class for investments. Real estate is also the focal point of major recessions and financial crises such as the U.S. Great Recession.
I continue emphasizing the connection between purely academic research and practical applications. Topics in the second module include credit and interest rate risks in securitized mortgages, asset valuation, location theories, market forecasts, and econometric models. The class is interactive; students will work on in-class exercises and discuss their own research ideas.
